Football Roundup: Denver Edge Hapless Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a low-scoring contest on Sunday, the Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the winless New York Jets. Quarterback Bo Nix threw an early touchdown pass and kicker Wil Lutz kicked the game-winning decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Defensive Display Wins Game
Even with registering nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos were behind 11-10 following conceding a safety in the third quarter. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce a mere 82 offensive yards during the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who completed 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard possession that ended with Lutz's short field goal with just over five minutes left.
Historic Struggles for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a chance to drive for a potential winning score. However Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to attempt the conversion instead of calling on kicker Nick Folk for a long kick.
Fields struggled all game, connecting on just 9 of 17 attempts for 45 yards. New York finished with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was completely absent," the coach commented after the game.
