A Mountain of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays

The Yuletide season present a wealth of pursuits much better than checking the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to avoid arguing with family members. I hope you succeeded in do all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting developments emerged during the holidays, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt more episodes. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which might be a positive development. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it first appeared in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now the community is thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the top-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been going on for a while, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm air date has not yet been announced.
